Mary Bernadette Papayya is an award winning and well respected media leader, journalist, media strategist & consultant in South Africa and on the African Continent. She has worked in the media industry for nearly three decades in a range of positions including Journalist, Bureau Chief, Editor, News & General Manager and Publisher. She is the Executive Director of Papayya Media. She is a Director with The Difference Makers & the Media and Stakeholder Strategist with the Leading Women of Africa (LWA). She is a board member on the oversight committee on the SA Professional Journalists Association, and a Media Ambassador for the Denis Hurley Centre (DHC). She is also a Board member of the eThekwini Community Trust – an entity serving key disadvantaged communities in KZN. She is Convener of the Vodacom Journalist of the Year Award, KZN Newsmaker of the Year Award and Convener of Nat Nakasa Bringing Home a Hero Project. She has been closely involved in the development, transformation (race and gender) and initiation of key media entities and products in the print and broadcast media across both mainstream and community media. She is a founder Editor and Honorary member and former Secretary-General & Deputy Chair of the South African National Editor’s Forum (SANEF).
